In this guide, we will see how to get the official exchange rates published by central banks and tax authorities into any Boomi process, using a free recipe from Boomi Marketplace and the Global Exchange Rates API.
The rates are the official ones and are suitable for accounting, VAT and reporting, and the recipe runs on Boomi’s built-in HTTP Client connector, so there is nothing extra to build.
1Install the recipe from Boomi Marketplace
Install Retrieve official exchange rates from Global Exchange Rates API from Boomi Marketplace. It imports into your Boomi account as a ready-to-run process.
2Configure it
In the process properties, enter your API key and the provider code for the source you want (for example ECB), and set the date: today, a past date, or today minus an offset for scheduled runs. No coding is required; everything is set through parameters.
3Run or schedule
Run the process on demand, or schedule it daily with a date offset so it retrieves the latest publication. Official sources publish once per business day, so a daily schedule shortly after your source publishes is sufficient.
4Map the rates into your system
The recipe returns one JSON document per currency with the fields provider, date, base, currency, and rate. Add a Map step and your target connector after it, and the official rates land wherever you need them: NetSuite, Workday, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, a database, a data warehouse, or any system Boomi connects to.
What the recipe handles for you
Days when the source publishes nothing (weekends, holidays) end cleanly with an informational log entry instead of an error, and API errors arrive as a readable document on a dedicated error branch you can wire to your own alerting.
